Liu Qiwei

Born in 1912, Liu Qiweii was well over 90 years of age, his native
home is Guangdong Province. He began to learn painting nearly reach
ing the age of 40, and entered the palace of art by teaching himself
without outer help. After 60 years old though, he switched to the study
of the cultural anthropology in which he buried himself hard. In his later
years, he even went exploring in Oceania and Borneo at the risk of his life, taking paths never trodden before. Therefore, his paintings bear a strong primitive characteristic.

Liu Qiweii is all in himself an engineer, painter, professor, explorer and anthropologist as well. His footprints have covered Asia, Africa and Latin America, studying the culture of aboriginal inhabitants, and wrote more than 30 works about art, anthropology and literature. Having been the favorite subject of his paintings, the wild animals under his brush have always with the taste of vivid humor and abundant vigor. He has developed his unique simple style by setting his soul and imagination free. Welcomed largely in Taiwan, he has gained the fine reputation of "a legendary person".
